La FĂȘte Nationale in Paris and Trying to Survive

Every July 14th in Paris there are fireworks. The day begins with a military parade on the Champs ÉlysĂ©es and finishes with fireworks over the Eiffel Tower. Witnessing this day is absolutely incredible and something that you just can't quite describe. So if you are in Paris on July 14th, experiencing this day is a must. But surviving it can be a bit tricky since it seems like the entire city is taking part in the day. And the key to surviving this day is planning. Lots and lots of planning.

Arrive Early

They key to getting a good view of the day is arriving early. Get to the Champs de Mars before 4pm to get a spot in front. Actually arriving at 2pm or 3pm is ideal because you would get the pick of the place. But by 5pm, the place is packed. So get there early, spread out, and prepare for people to come and cram your space.

Pack Snacks

Most people forget to pack something for dinner, so the nearby grocery stores look like scenes from apocalypse movies. So there is practically no food nearby. And once you leave, someone will take your spot, even if your friend is holding it for you. So come prepared with snacks ahead of time, maybe even a full meal.

Get Comfortable

Bring some sort of blank to sit down on. Maybe even some chairs. It gets to be a very long day and sitting in the grass that long gets itchy, so instead bring something to sit on. Also, the blanket or the chair will prevent others from encroaching on your space.

Bring Games

You're going to get bored and sitting around for hours seems to drag on. So bring some games to play with your friends or nearby people. This will help pass the time and make the overall experience quite enjoyable.
