Ljubljana: A Pleasant Surprise

How are we not talking about Ljubljana? This beautiful city doesn't seem to get the attention that it deserves. Unless that is what Slovenia is doing, keeping its country a secret to not get overrun by tourists. Because once words gets out about how magnificent this city and country is, people are going to be flocking here. So maybe head there now to enjoy it before it gets really crowded! Ljubljana is a treat for the eyes. So here are some great things to see while you are there.

10. Butcher's Bridge: near the central market is the butcher's bridge, with interesting sculptures and love locks on the bridge. Every bridge in Ljubljana is unique and different from all the rest, making each bridge a fun find. This is one of the many, and tourists seem to love this one since they can lock their love away in a magnificent city.

9. Central Market: this huge market in the city center has something for everyone. From unique gifts to fresh fruits and vegetables, this market has it all. Along the river is a covered market, and at the square is a larger market. Don't miss the food trucks!

Cobbler's Bridge


8. Cobbler's Bridge: also known as the shoemaker's bridge, this bridge is beautiful because it gives a great view of the city and the river. It is one of the oldest bridges, dating back to the 13th Century. And its beautiful pillars give it this classic beauty.

7. Tivoli City Park: this large park is about five kilometers long, so you can imagine there is a lot to see in here. From beautifully manicured trees and bushes to magnificent flowers, this park offers a lot of beautiful walks. It is a great place for a picnic!

6. Franciscan Church of the Annunciation: this seems to be one of the major landmarks of the city. With everyone hanging around the square in front of it, this seems to be the center of the city. And inside the pink church is beautiful and worth the peek inside.

5. Dragon Bridge: built in the art nouveau style, this bridge is apparently the symbol of the city. With dragons guarding the ends of the bridge, this bridge is worth the walk. The dragons are beautifully made but powerful looking and the view from the bridge gives a great view of the castle and other city sites.

4. Ljubljana Cathedral: also known as St. Nicholas's Cathedral, this is a must see if you want to marvel at architecture. Even the doors are wonderful, depicting scenes which are carved onto the iron door. And inside is magnificent with its beautiful paintings and sculptures.

3. Ljubljana Castle: up upon a hill is the Ljubljana castle. You can choose to walk up the paths or take the funicular to the top. Inside you can visit parts of the castle or admire the views of the city. It gives one of the best views of the city from above as long as there are not too many trees in your way.

2. Triple Bridge: this is a series of three bridges, placed right next to each other, connecting the medieval old town to the city. This series of bridges seems to be the central hub of the city, with everyone hanging out near the bridges and plenty of entertainment nearby.

1. Walk Along the River Banks: one of the best things to do in the city is to walk along the river. You are constantly greeted by beautiful buildings, which are so colorful. And with all of the bridges along the way, you know you will get some great sights. There are plenty of places to sit and grab a coffee or ice cream or to just stop and admire the natural beauty of the city.
