Traveling in Belarus: What You Should Know

There is still not much information out there about traveling to Belarus because it is still not a top tourist destination. But now with visa-free travel, more people are going to visit the city and are surprised by its charm. So here are some tips to make that trip a bit easier.

No English

The people of Belarus speak even less English than those in Russia. So be prepared to practice your Russian. In some of the large museums, there is a tiny bit of English spoken, but it still involves a lot of pointing and asking for an English audioguide. But the people are nice and friendly and do their best to try and help you. So if you don't speak Russian, don't worry, people are still willing to try and help.

Don't Leave Minsk

Minsk is still a very safe city and violent crime is really low. But that doesn't mean you can leave Minsk. Because of the visa-free travel, you are only allowed in Minsk for five days. If you want to explore more of Belarus, you need to get a visa. So be prepared to keep your passport on you and show your papers if the police begin to question you.

Follow the Rules

The first thing you'll notice is how clean and safe the city feels. That's because people take great care in their city and expect tourists to do the same. They also never jaywalk and always follow the rules. So do like the locals do and you will have a great time.
