Traveling With Germaphobia
Traveling as a Germaphobe: Some Tips on Enjoying Your Adventure
Dealing with a fear of germs is hard to begin with, but adding travel to the mixture just makes things worse. Riding public transportation or dealing with sites during high season is asking for anxiety. But people like me that are terribly afraid of germs and uncleanliness can actually travel. There are still plenty of adventures to be had and the fear doesn't have to hold us back. Here are some tips on how to stay sane while fighting away the potential germs and enjoying exploring a new city.
Hand Sanitizer is Your Best Friend
Ok, so hand sanitizer is probably already your best friend, but when traveling, it becomes a must have. Don't be afraid to go about daily travel life and touch things because you will always have some hand sanitizer at your disposal. Feel free to press the button on the bus or hold open a door, because whenever you get nervous, there is hand sanitizer.
Bring Cleaning Wipes
This is a germaphobe must have because it is great for airplanes and hotel rooms. Its always hard to relax unless we feel clean and at home. So wipe down the airplane tray tables and arm rests, wipe down the hotel remote and anything else you might touch, and breathe a sigh of relief.
Make a First Aid Kit
Dealing with germs is also staying healthy. So create a pack of things that you like to travel with to stay healthy, such as vitamin c or anything else you may need. Just create a small pouch and store it at the bottom of your bag. You don't need it every day but you have it in case you get a bit nervous about the person that coughed on you.
Try Neosporin
Speaking of someone coughing on you, when you board a plane, rub some neosporin on your nose. My mom taught me that this blocks the germs and it is doctor proven. Actually, when I don't do this, I always get sick, so give it a try!
