Copenhagen: A Bicyclist's Dream!

Copenhagen seems to be one of the top destinations in the Scandinavian countries. Just a short distance away from Central and Western Europe, many people add Copenhagen to their travel bucket list to get a taste of that Scandinavian living. And this green city sure has plenty of things to see and do. Famous for being conscientious of the environment, many choose to bike around the city and recycling is a must. So if culture, environmental protectionism, and modern city living sounds fun, the Copenhagen is the city for you!

The Little Mermaid

10. The Little Mermaid: this tiny little statue in the water, just outside the city center, attracts so many people every day. And while many warn against going, saying it is not worth it, I think you need to go and see for yourself what the big deal is about. Dedicated the the fairy tale The Little Mermaid, not the Disney version, but the sad and original version, this little statue shows longing and sadness while overlooking the harbor.

9. Christiansborg: today this palace is the seat of the Danish Parliament and the Supreme Court, so it is super active. Known for its lavish estate rooms, this palace is quite the beauty. Just don't expect an all access tour since it is in use, though certain parts are accessible to the public. Nevertheless, it is still fun to head over to check out the busy palace and admire its beauty.

8. Rosenborg: Copenhagen has plenty of castles, and this one, outside the main parts of the city center, is beautiful thanks to its gardens. Although inside are the crown jewels, so if you're interested in a little bit of Danish royal history, this is the castle for you. A little bit of sparkle always lights up a day!

7. Amalienborg: this palace is the official home of the Danish Royal Family, so don't expect many full access visits to this palace. But it is fun to head over and check out its beauty and hope to catch a glimpse of the royals. Don't miss the changing of the guard. The public is allowed to walk around and get up close and personal during the process and the guards are more than happy to explain this process. It is a fun experience!

6. Church of Our Savior: this church just east of the city center is unique with its winding spire. You can climb to the top and get a great view of the city. Or head inside to appreciate its beauty. Whether or not you're one for churches, this offers a beautiful view of the city center seen from a distance.

5. Strøget: this is one of the longest pedestrian streets within the city center. Connecting the north and south of the city, there are plenty of shops and coffee houses to look at along the way. If not then just walk along the street to enjoy the architecture and the unique sights of Copenhagen.

4. Kastellet: near the Little Mermaid is an old fortress by the sea. This little fortress today is a great place for a nice walk outside the city center and some good views of the harbor. It is also one of the best preserved fortresses in Northern Europe. It is a great place to get your dose of nature as it is covered in grass and trees today.

3. Frederik's Kirke: this royal church is worth the quick stop if you want to admire beautiful marbled columns and dazzling ceilings. It is known for having the largest dome in Scandinavia, so you know it is going to be impressive. The church itself is a great place to sit for a minute and admire its beauty.

Inside the Rundetaarn

2. Rundetaarn: this round tower is the perfect climb is you want to see the city from above. Located in the center of the city, you can see just about any monument from this tower. And what makes it so great is that it slopes up like a ramp rather than using stairs; so you don't need to worry about climbing twenty flights of stairs, it's like taking a walk up a hill.

1. Nyhavn: this wonderful neighborhood on the harbor is what so many people think of when they think of Copenhagen. From beautifully colored buildings to the calming sea, this part of the city is absolutely picturesque. And in the wintertime the Christmas market is right there, score!
