Underrated Cities
Cities That Are Often Overlooked When Planning Travels But Shouldn't Be
When people plan their vacation to Europe, they dream of
many different locations. Paris. Rome. Barcelona. London. Florence. Amsterdam.
Nice. Venice. Munich. All of these cities receive millions of people every
year. Yet Europe is a widely accessible continent that allows free travel
between countries. Thanks to this, people are gradually branching out to less
popular destinations. And while these cities are not currently receiving as
much attention as the main vacation spots in Europe, they are worth the thought
and I highly encourage everyone to consider and venture out into these cities.
10. Prague: ok so
Prague is no longer a well-kept secret. No matter the time of the year, so many
tourists are exploring the city. So the reason why this is number ten on the
list is because it is on the verge of no longer being underrated since so many
people are now making it a priority on their lists. Just wandering the streets
of this city is a treat for the eye. The food is great, and there is plenty of
things to do. There is a reason why Prague is my favorite city!
9. Dubrovnik:
like Prague, this wonderful little city has become quite the destination,
partially due to Game of Thrones. It
has got everything people could want: old medieval walls, wonderful beaches, a rich
history, plenty of activities, pop culture, and great food. So what are you
waiting for? Dubrovnik is a fantastic destination!
8. Budapest:
although many people have started to branch out and discover this city, it
seems like it is mostly Europeans themselves and that many non-Europeans are
choosing to stick with the traditional tourist destinations. But Budapest is
definitely a city that has a lot to offer. It has an abundance of beautiful
monuments, charming streets, fantastic museums, and great food. And even
better, it is incredibly affordable!
7. Tallinn: while
not many people think of traveling to Estonia, it is worth it if you are in the
region. Just a quick boat trip away from Helsinki, it is a doable day trip. If
not stay overnight and discover this charming medieval town, with beautiful
city walls and charming streets. Adding to the medieval feel, many people dress
up in clothing from the time while playing medieval instruments. Not bad for a
capital city!

6. Warsaw: people
often forget about Poland when planning trips to Europe. They tend to favor
many of its neighbors. But Poland is a fun country to visit as a traveler. And
Warsaw has so much to offer. This city is so unique as it has been destroyed
many times but has still made an effort to preserve its style and its culture,
making it a culturally beautiful center surrounded by Soviet style architecture
and influence. For an eye-opening and unique experience, Warsaw is a must see!
5. Lyon: foreigners
often forget this wonderful French town. They tend to favor Paris or the warm
southern beaches. But Lyon is considered the gastronomic capital of France, so
you know you're in for a treat! And its winding streets along the river are
absolutely charming. Lyon should definitely be on everyone's lists when
traveling to France. Your eyes and taste buds will thank you!
4. Krakow: many
people are choosing to stay in Krakow because of its close proximity to
Auschwitz. And while I am incredibly happy that people are educating themselves
and seeing with their own eyes one of the biggest tragedies of mankind, I
highly encourage people to check out Krakow for Krakow! It is an adorable city
with plenty to see and do. And it is incredibly easy on the budget, so
absolutely worth the trip!
3. Helsinki: no,
this isn't on my list because I am biased and live in the city. It really is a
great destination that many people forget about. They generally choose to favor
Stockholm or Copenhagen and don't even know anything about Helsinki. I've been
asked if that's part of Russia before (don't ask the Finns!) and people don't
even know that Finland is a country. But this wonderful seaside capital is
worth the trip. There are plenty of activities, and if you're into
architecture, Helsinki is the city for you! Although it's small, this capital
city makes a great destination for everyone!
2. Bucharest: not
many people think of going to Romania, mostly because of its bad reputation.
But if you can avoid the taxi scams and keep your bag close to you, just like
in Italy, this is actually a pretty safe city and with so much to see and do!
Known as Little Paris, Bucharest is decorated in that Art Nouveau style. It
also has an abundance of museums and incredible sights. Bucharest seems to be
forgotten, but it shouldn't be. The food is great, the people are nice, the
culture is interesting, and the city is beautiful. It is an incredible
experience!

1. Ljubljana:
this is the Pinterest city that you've seen and dreamed of. With picturesque
streets by the river to the majestic Alps surrounding the region, Ljubljana, or
really just all of Slovenia, should be at the top of everyone's lists. It is
very affordable, and a wonderful blend of so many styles. And it has so many
outdoor activities that there is something to do for everyone. From cave
exploring to hiking to swimming to hang gliding, this city, and country, has so
much to offer. It makes me wonder why I waited so long to visit this wonderful
country. And I can't wait to go back!

These are a few of the cities that I have been to that are
not considered hot destinations in Europe. Many other people have added other
countries to their list, many which I hope to explore in the near future. So
stay tuned as this list may be updated with new discoveries!
Wow I definitely have overlooked many of these. Prague and Croatia are on my list. I'm heading back to France soon so I need to look into Lyon since I am a foodie!
