The 10 Best Things to See in Santorini

Santorini: A Picturesque Island

My first trip to Greece was to Santorini, and although it is not an actual city, all the cities on the island are fairly small and can be easily accessed by car a bus on the island. Santorini is everything that people picture when they think of Greece: steep hills, white houses, beaches, and beautiful blue sea. So here are some of the best things to do and see in Santorini.

Beaches of Perissa
10. Go quad biking: this seems like the best way to get around the island if you love adventure. They're small quads that can fit two people and they're probably more reliable than the bus. So why not have some fun while going from one side of the island to another?

9. Find a good view: Santorini is an island full of hills, so finding a good view is not that hard, it just might take some exercise. All the beautiful towns are next to the ocean, so it creates this beautiful blend of pristine white architecture and deep blue water.

8. Visit the ancient ruins: what do you go see when in Greece? Ruins of course! As one of the most famous ancient civilizations, it seems that finding some ancient ruins is a must. And these are scattered all throughout Santorini and are pretty easy to find.

7. Catch a sunset: this beautiful island is incredible during the daytime, but when the sun goes down it is one of the best displays of colors there are. For some reason sunsets over the water always seem the most beautiful. And luckily Santorini has a variety of locations to do this!

6. The Red Beach: Santorini is beautiful because of its unique colors all over the island. And the Red Beach is one of them. Due to the volcanic activity of the island, there are different minerals (or something sciencey) making the sand red. How often do you get to see that?

5. Oia: this is probably one of the most iconic cities of Santorini because of its location on the steep hills. Also its beautiful houses and buildings add to the beauty of the city. Wander the winding, up and down streets and get lost in the city's beauty and charm.

4. Swim in the blue water: some of the most beautiful water in the world is in this region, and Santorini has plenty of beaches that give access to it. It is a deep blue that isn't that salty compared to other parts of the world. So swimming here is really nice and relaxing.

3. Hiking in Oia: you can cross from one city to another by hiking. It is along the mountains so of course you get a beautiful view of the deep blue water and the nearby towns. If you're into outdoor activities and don't mind climbing up a hill, this hike is for you.

2. The beaches of Perissa: these beaches are interesting because they are black sand and from the lava. So when you walk on the beach barefoot its like an exfoliator for your feet, they're so soft afterwards. And the view is pretty nice too!

1. Fira: this little city is a great day trip from wherever you are staying in the island. It gives amazing views of the ocean and picturesque scenes full of hillside buildings on the mountain. The white buildings is what everyone thinks of when they think of Greece, and Fira does not disappoint.

  1. Wonderful - I really want to go to greece and more so to Santorini. It looks absolutely stunning and I love the idea of quad biking around the area, how fabulous. Also good to hear the water is not that salty. Ive been to Nice, France where the sea water was so salty it really stings the eyes.

    1. Hi Karla! Most of the stuff is free, which is nice. The most expensive thing would be quad biking, the price is per hour, and it depends on where you are. Compared to many other destinations in the world, it is not expensive. If not the bus cost barely two Euros to get from one side of the island to the other, so it was much more convenient for me to use since I try to save money when I can. Overall nothing was very expensive, even the meals! I hope this helps
