The Best Parks in Paris

While Paris is a metropolitan city, it has a lot of parks. It seems that you never have to go far for a small natural getaway in the city. But there are some parks that are huge and a great place to spend a sunny afternoon. Some have rolling green hills, some have rows of flowers and plants. Each park is unique, so everyone has their favorite. Parks in Paris vary in shapes and sizes, so this list is going to include gardens as well as parks. So here is a list of the best parks in Paris.

10. Bois de Vincennes: near the Chateau de Vincennes is a huge forest to get lost in. Every day people go to run, walk, or bike along the paths within the forest. Some make a few stops for picnics, but the main attraction is the forrest.

9. Bois de Boulogne: another forest on the other side of Paris is another destination for bikers and runners, but it also has a few lakes and expanses of grass. This is one of my favorite places to take the kids because they can run forever in the fields of grass.

8. Parc Andre Citroen: this super modern park attracts many families as everything seems like an activity to do together. And its location right next to the Seine offers some beautiful views.

7. Parc de la Villette: this park is great because of all the things that it offers. It is a great location for families because of the Cite des Sciences and other museums nearby. The park itself is very modern but does have those huge fields of grass as well. Its a great place in the north of Paris.

6. Champ de Mars: this long expanse of grass and dirt paths is a great location for a picnic or a jog. And of course the view of the Eiffel Tower doesn't hurt. Every day tourists are walking along this field, but you can catch a few glimpses of Parisians lounging about.

Jardin des Plantes
5. Jardin des Plantes: this beautiful garden in Paris is also a great place for kids with the Natural History museum nearby. While many are looking at all the species of plants, others are enjoying the location to go on a run that offers a great view of the Seine.

4. Parc des Buttes Chaumont: for a romantic getaway, this park offers many secluded views of Paris behind the multitude of trees and bushes. Its also a great place to workout because the metro is 200 stairs to get up and then all the hills in the park itself make this park a great place to workout without even trying!

3. Parc Monceau: this park could easily be my favorite because of its greek inspired architecture. I felt like I was in Disney's Hercules and could sing along with the muses to "I won't say I'm in love." Its mixture of green grasses, bushy trees, and beautiful greek columns  make this one of the most beautiful parks of Paris.

2. Jardin de Luxembourg: this classic French gardens makes me think that I am at Versailles without even being there. And it makes sense since it was built for a queen. But the highlight of this garden is the Medici Fountain that seems to be beautiful at all times of the year, rain or shine.

1. Jardin des Tuileries: this garden in the middle of the heart of Paris is a heavily trafficked, and with good reason. With its outdoor sculptures, view of the Champs Elysees, the Louvre, and the Seine, it is a great location. And its abundance of chairs and benches along the way offer a great place to meet up for a picnic or take a break to stop and smell the roses.
