Berthillon: How to do Ice Cream Right

Italy's got gelato. Point for Italy. Brava Italia. But France has Berthillon. Sorbet and ice cream for kings, or gods. Thank you Berthillion for gracing us with you presence in Paris and enlightening our palettes with the best tasting ice cream that I've ever had. So point for France.

Berthillon was started in the early 1900s. Hidden in the Ile Saint Louis, most people didn't know about it until it became popular in the 1960s. Today it is a name that all Parisians know and it's ice cream is sold all over Paris.

Sorbet Flavors from Berthillon
So what makes it so good? Whatever flavor you choose, it feels like you're eating just that. Pear sorbet tastes like you're taking a bite out of pear. But not just any pear, the best pear of the bunch. And Berthillon doesn't just stop at fruit and sorbets. Let's just say it has the best hazelnut ice cream that I've ever tried. And whether it's sorbet or ice cream, it goes down really smooth and isn't as heavy as normal ice cream. Actually, that's probably a bad thing since I could eat more of it. But of course all of these wonderful flavors come with a hefty price, which is why I can't indulge as often as I would like. But when I do get that chance, no words can describe how amazing it is.
